Middle Earth
Since the first The Lord of the Rings movie was released in 2001, New Zealand has been referred to as the ‘Home of Middle-earth’.
The mythical world of Middle-earth is well represented by enchanting valleys, golden plains and stunning mountain ranges.
More than 150 locations throughout New Zealand were used to film The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit Trilogy. There are different activities and tours available to experience these.
A visit to the Weta workshop in Miramar (Wellington) provides visitors a behind the scenes tour of the Weta Cave Workshop.
