Visit a Gannet colony:
A popular attraction in Hawke’s Bay is a large ‘on shore’ Gannet Colony located at Cape Kidnappers. These massive, yet graceful birds, are an amazing sight and you can view them in one of three ways:
• A 5 hour walk along the beach (determined by the tide);
• Enjoy a trip by tractor with local tour operator Gannet Beach Adventures; or
• Travel over land by 4 wheel drive to the Gannet colony with local tour operator Gannet Safaris
You can visit a number of local vineyards by yourself or by an arranged regional wine tour. This can include exploring the wineries by bike or maybe with a knowledgeable and experienced local wine guide. Custom tours are a popular way of enjoying some of the regions top wineries for wine tasting and cellar door purchases.
Biking, walking and hiking:
Numerous biking, walking and hiking trails exist in this area including the Hawkes Bay Cycle Trails.
